About Lysianne

French-Taiwanese pianist, Lysianne Chen, has forged a diverse and varied career delivering distinctive performances combining a profound musical understanding with technical assurance. Her performance career has taken her to prestigious venues across Europe at several major festivals and concert halls.

Described as "An outstanding pianist and chamber musician, with a deep sensibility to sound and style, and the ability to capture an audience with playing that goes straight to the heart." by John Blakely, Professor of Piano, Accompaniment and Vocal Repertoire at the Royal College of Music in London, her recordings have been broadcast on a number of platforms throughout Europe including National Radio PT5 in Portugal, on French TV channels Channel 5 and Arte, Greek parliament channel Vouli, and most recently, a recording of her duo with clarinettist Boyan Ivanov was broadcast on Bulgarian channel DTV.

In addition, Lysianne has appeared at numerous festivals including:

  • Aegean International Festival in Crete

  • Ciclo Internacional de Piano "The Fire and the Rose" in Lisbon

  • International Music Festival “Golden Diana” in Yambol, Bulgaria.

Most recently, Lysianne was invited by the Parliament of Greece, alongside violinist Anastasios Mavroudis, to perform at a concert celebrating Greek composer Sisilianos, which was broadcast on Greek Parliament TV channel, Vouli. In June 2019, Chen was invited to play at the British Parliament alongside violinist Matthew Tosca. Following this, Lysianne performed alongside duo partner, Boyan Ivanov, at the Balabanov's House Music Days International Festival in July 2019.

Lysianne’s debut recording with violinist Anastasios Mavroudis is released in 2019, includes works by American composers Bernstein, Adams, Gershwin and Copland. She is currently preparing for her second CD release in collaboration with clarinettist Boyan Ivanov on a disc of classic works and popular arrangements for clarinet including works by Bizet, Piazzolla, Brahms and Verdi.

In 2017, Lysianne was invited to take part in an Artist-in-Residency programme in Granville, France, in which she led a series of coaching sessions with students, masterclasses and performance, including a sold-out piano recital. The programme was received with great praise by the French press, particularly La Manche Libre and Ouest France. The same year, Lysianne was invited by the Singaporean Ministry of Education to lecture on the educational Music Elective Programme, which aim to develop skills in listening, creating, performing and music research with high school students.

Lysianne studied piano at the Conservatoires of Caen and Montpellier, later attending the Royal Academy of Music in London where she obtained a Master’s Degree in Piano Performance. She is passionate about chamber music and has worked with various instrumental ensembles, performing a vast range of repertoire maintaining a keen interest in a variety of genres including tango and jazz/classical crossover such as that of the composers Piazzolla, Kapustin and Gershwin.

In pursuing this interest, Lysianne has been a regular Classical Guest Entertainer aboard P&O and Fred Olson cruise ships since 2017.
